Although January often brings fresh energy to our wellness goals, an estimated 80% of people are unsuccessful with their New Year’s resolutions, with many losing motivation by mid-February, according to U.S. News and World Report. At the top of many resolution lists is a commitment to fitness, and this drive isn’t just confined to our homes – it’s becoming a central theme in travel routines, too. While fitness can mean different things to different people, it is important to keep moving and find touchpoints throughout your day no matter where you are in the world.

Hilton’s 2024 Trends Report found that travelers are investing in their holistic wellness goals this year more than ever before. To help you adhere to your fitness resolutions, especially on the road, Hilton team members share their own tips for staying committed to movement when on the go.

Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort - Yoga

Embracing Yoga for Wellness

Alexandra Donofrio

Alexandra Donofrio, regional senior director, Human Resources for Hilton Caribbean and Latin America, calls yoga her loyal companion when on the road. “Yoga is a practice that transcends the confines of a static location,” said Donofrio. “When in a hotel room, yoga serves as a bridge to unite my mind, body, and spirit before going to meetings. Depending on how busy my schedule is for the day, I choose either one of my own basic Vinyasa Yoga routines or a longer yoga session on online platforms or apps. Use a mat or just a bath towel. And you don’t even need extra shoes; just do it barefoot!”

Championing Cross-Training

Christian Diaz

Christian Diaz, a waiter at Hilton Garden Inn Neuquén in Argentina and a dedicated bodybuilder, believes cross-training is important for balanced physical fitness. He loves staying at properties like Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock, which features its Sedona Athletic Club outdoor Warrior Pit, a cross-training playground equipped with tires, ropes, and sledgehammers. “Cross-training helps reduce the risk of injury by creating balanced physical activity that targets all areas of the body. This can help improve balance and flexibility, as well as strengthen weak muscles,” said Diaz.

Hilton x Peloton

Highlighting HIIT

Jennifer Vollmer

Jennifer Vollmer, cluster manager, marketing eCommerce & social media for Hilton’s collection of hotels in Orlando, is a dedicated Peloton member and appreciates the convenience Hilton’s partnership with Peloton offers. “I can use my membership wherever I go with the on-demand workouts. Short on time? There’s a class for that,” said Vollmer. Last year, Hilton and Peloton expanded their industry-first partnership to Puerto Rico and three new international markets – Germany, the U.K. and participating properties in Canada – providing guests with an elevated fitness experience around the world.

Hilton Los Cabos - Boxing

Finding Strength in Boxing

Francisco Villegas

Francisco Villegas, a wellness trainer at Hilton Los Cabos, works with guests in the fitness center through group classes and one-on-one fitness sessions. He’s personally incorporated boxing into his wellness journey, saying, “It has changed my view on consistency, patience and dedication when it comes to training and everyday life. One thing it has taught me is that in life, as in the boxing ring, defeat is not declared when you fall down. Defeat is only declared when you refuse to get up.” Properties like Hilton Los Cabos and Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club’s airy Athletic Club offer Boxing Conditioning, where traditional boxing meets functional fitness.

Arizona Biltmore Waldorf Astoria Resort - Pool

Prioritizing Variability in Training

Roderick Townsend-Roberts

Roderick Townsend-Roberts, a fitness attendant at Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, prioritizes working out while on the road, especially as he recently beat his own record, achieved the men’s high jump T47 world title and set a new world record at the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships. “Variability in training is very important for me so it’s great to stay at a property with a diverse selection of training equipment,” said Townsend-Roberts. From cycling warm-ups to free weight exercises and jogging to swimming laps, Roderick always stays on the move and varies his training to elevate his fitness journey.

Staying committed to your fitness resolutions while traveling can be as easy as finding the right stay. With access to the right resources and a bit of planning, you can continue your wellness journey and discover fitness isn’t confined to just one location.
