Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah Continues Sustainability Efforts
In support of Earth Hour’s 10th year anniversary, Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah goes that extra mile to shine the light on climate change
RAS AL KHAIMAH, UAE. - Every year Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah contributes to the worldwide movement of Earth Hour, historically held on the 25th of March for the past ten years, encouraging local communities and businesses to participate and commit to climate change goals.
This year, the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah team took their Earth Hour passion to new heights with a variety of innovative initiatives launched in conjunction with the movement. Instead of marking Earth Hour with one day participation, this 2017 Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah decided to launch an Earth Week, from 20th to 26th of March 2017. Joining all team members in a variety of educational activities such as; team member quiz competitions, local community school visits, screening of related movies in the colleague training room and back-of-house posters and bulletin boards with a variety of educational artwork.
Furthermore, the Earth Week also extended beyond Waldorf Astoria colleague to front-of-house initiatives. These included Earth Hour food stations in the main dining restaurant, Qasr Al Bahar, a designed Earth Hour mocktail served in the lobby lounge Peacock Alley during the lights off ceremony, signature candle designs and a specialised raw food menu to be served over a candlelit dinner in the resort's award-winning steakhouse, Lexington Grill.
The raw food menu, which was created with the concept of reducing energy by alternative cooking methods such as curing, includes dishes created with minimal energy consumption from the culinary team and showcases delectable items such as sea bass tartar with smoked mango, sun dried garlic and coriander, as well as spiced beef tataki with prime tenderloin, parmesan, green apple and hoisin. The Earth Hour menu also includes ingredients grown in the hotel's organic herb garden, adding an extra level of sustainability and environmental efforts that the team hopes will extend from the food to visiting guests.
The natural surroundings are an important part of the Ras Al Khaimah community, with the formidable Jebel Jais Mountains, lush greenery and unbroken red deserts, all combining to create a destination alive with adventure and beauty. Sustainability in the area is an important topic and of crucial consideration for all hotels that reside there.
