Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas Partners With Three Square, Southern Nevada’s Only Food Bank, for Unused Banquet Food Donations
‘Stay for a Cause’ hotel package allows guests to contribute, with a portion of room revenue benefiting the nonprofit
LAS VEGAS - In honor of Hunger Action Month in September, the luxury Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas has announced its partnership with Three Square, Southern Nevada’s only food bank, for the donation of unused banquet food. The hotel also announced a new guest room package benefiting Three Square.
Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas launched the partnership in June 2019 and to date has donated more than 1,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of approximately 894 meals. Food that remains covered and untouched during events is placed in aluminum containers and quickly frozen before being picked up by Three Square once each week. The hotel also donates surplus dry food from its storeroom including cereal, oats, chips and more.
“We are honored to partner with Three Square, whose mission to end hunger in Southern Nevada perfectly aligns with Hilton’s global strategy to offer socially and environmentally responsible ways to reduce waste across its banquet offerings and beyond,” says Executive Sous Chef Michael Burns.
With its new “Stay for a Cause” package, available for stays through December 31, 2019, guests can also contribute to Three Square with each stay, with $10 of the rate from each guest room and $30 of the rate from each suite being donated to the nonprofit.
“No one in our community should ever have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, but for more than 271,000 people, that is a very real concern,” said Brian Burton, president and CEO of Three Square Food Bank. “For every dollar raised, Three Square can provide three meals, so each guest who participates in ‘Stay for a Cause’ can provide anywhere from 30 to 90 meals to our food-insecure neighbors. We are incredibly grateful to the leadership and employees of Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas for working alongside us to combat hunger across the Valley.”
Established in 2007 to provide hunger relief, Three Square offers wholesome, nutritious food to nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools and feeding sites that serve a wide range of Southern Nevadans. The nonprofit currently provides more than 43 million meals – the equivalent of more than 51 million pounds of food and grocery product – per year through a network of nearly 1,400 community partners.
Travel with Purpose is Hilton’s global corporate responsibility strategy. The company has committed to doubling its investment in social impact and cutting its environmental footprint in half through responsible hospitality across the value chain. While the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas partnership is currently limited to banquet food, Burns says the program may be extended to other outlets in the future.
Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas is located in the center of Las Vegas Blvd., offering dynamic culinary experiences including the Forbes Five Star Twist by Pierre Gagnaire, Zen Kitchen, and SkyBar, which serves up handcrafted cocktails 23 floors above it all. The hotel is also home to the Waldorf Astoria Spa, which offers 27,000 square feet of health and wellness space.
