Culinary Spotlight Includes Sea Scallops, Spiny Lobster and Alba White Truffles
LA QUINTA, Calif. - Fork in hand, the flavors of fall are just around the corner and triple James Beard award recipient executive chef Jimmy Schmidt and team salute the season with a flavor-forward lineup at Morgan's in the desert. Set for September 14 through December 31, 2015 the annual Peak Harvest Fest celebrates products served at their zenith and this season promises to deliver. Adding to the restaurant's cache, Morgan's in the desert is the recent recipient of the coveted Wine Spectator magazine "Award of Excellence" spotlighting its diverse 3,000-plus-bottle-deep wine program.
From Santa Barbara spiny lobster to Italy's Alba white truffles, Baja shrimp and Hog Island oysters, the hyper-focused salute to fall's finest is just a reservation away. Focused on top products seasonally and sustainably sourced, the fall Peak Harvest Festival kicks off with all things apple pairing just-picked Honey Crisp apples with chanterelles in a rousing ravioli and a cider-cured Mangolista Pork Rib atop a Caramel Apple Tart as the entrée (September 17-30) followed by salute to diver sea scallops (October 1-14) served in multiple formats including a tasty tartar and pan roasted with an earthy Wagyu bacon wrap. Things go south - so to speak - for the annual Baja Shrimp & Oyster Festival (October 15-29) with a sensory pairing of fresh Baja Shrimp and Hog Island Oysters plumped from rich summer waters.
The Squab & Pumpkin Festival (October 30 - November 11) pairs prized farm-raised California squab with its natural autumn counterpart, the pumpkin. November kicks thing up with the annual Duck & Pear Festival (November 12-25), a gastronomic marriage made in heaven as artisan duck and a medley of pears are coaxed into a peak performance. Next up is the salute to tom turkey on November 26 with three resort venues offering the ultimate traditional fare paired with all the Native American ingredients from our band of foragers.
December means Alba truffles and nowhere is this treasured gem more coveted than chef Schmidt's kitchen. Set for an extended 30-day stay, The Alba White Truffle Festival (December 1-30) will seamlessly showcase the delicate flavors of this Italian delicacy in a variety of formats including White Truffle Silk Celeriac Risotto and Pan Roasted Truffled Pheasant Breast on a crest of Chanterelles Nest. The annual spiny lobster haul, straight from the shores of Santa Barbara, hits a high note (December 1-15), followed by praise of the pomegranate (December 16-24) culminating with the annual Christmas Festival (December 25) packaged in all its culinary glory.
