In addition, the Piragua Concierge educates guests on the local traditions of the frozen treat.
Made of shaved ice and covered with fruit-flavored syrup, the refreshing pyramid shaped treat is available in both kid-friendly and adult-only flavors. Current offerings range from coconut, strawberry and watermelon to Puerto Rican classics like the Mojito, a spiked creation of local rum, rock coconut, mojito syrup, and lime juice. Watermelon, wild berry or mango flavored Mojito piraguas are also available. In addition, a variety of toppings are sure to add delight like cotton candy, gummy worms, sour patch kids, whipped cream and more.
The world piragua is derived from the combination of the Spanish words "piramide" (pyramid) and "agua" (water). Unlike the American snow cone, which is round and resembles a snowball, the piragua is pointy and shaped like a pyramid. Piraguas are frequently seen throughout the island of Puerto Rico as sold by vendors, known as piragüeros, in small colorful pushcarts.
