The New History Tour & Tea Party At The Drake
Nearly a Century of Tales to Sip and Savor at The Drake Hotel, a Historic Hotels of America®
CHICAGO - "Tea for Two" is a song from the 1925 musical, No, No, Nanette, where in Act II the performers imagine their futures. Tea for ten or more is a new tour and tea party at The Drake, where a hotel guide narrates tales from the 1920s through the decades, allowing guests to envision the past and fancy the famed afternoon tea service in the Palm Court.
The Drake's History Tour & Tea is a Real ChicagoTM experience. It is a throwback to nearly a century of stories recounted in theatrical fashion by The Drake's Hospitality Manager Amy Verdon, who serves as the History Tour & Tea guide. It is not only Verdon's tenure that makes the stories comes to life, but also her talent and skill as a trained entertainer. Her credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and a Minor in Vocal Performance from Kansas State University; member of the Screen Actors Guild/AFTRA, past performer at Chicago's Navy Pier; historical guide at the Astor's Beechwood Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island; and more than 10 years of improv work at Chicago's iconic iO and Playground Theaters.
The historical tour covers architecture, ghost stories, crimes of the times, royalty, celebrities, entertainment and more. The excursion includes a 45 to 60 minute walking tour of the legendary hotel commencing at the lobby level and proceeding to the tenth floor.
The History Tour & Tea is available Monday through Thursday with Afternoon Tea service at 1 p.m. followed by the 2:30 p.m. historical tour. Pricing is $65 per person, plus tax and gratuity for groups with a 10 guest minimum.
