Mospromstroy And Hilton Worldwide To Restore ‘Sleeping Giant’ Of Moscow Hospitality
Historic building formerly known as hotel ‘Luxe’ and ’Centralnaya Hotel’ located on Tverskaya 10 will become Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe after a 6.6 bln rouble reconstruction
MOSCOW and MCLEAN, Va. - As hospitality leaders converge on the annual Russian and CIS Hotel Investment Conference (RHIC), Hilton Worldwide (NYSE: HLT) and Mospromstroy have announced plans to bring one of the city's most fabled properties back to the market. According to the signed franchising agreement between Mospromstroy and Hilton Worldwide, Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe will cover 47,000 sq.m and consist of 220 guest rooms and 52 apartments and is expected to welcome its first guests by mid-2018.
An investment of 6.6 bln roubles (over $100m) will be made to aimed at restore substantial parts of a building which dates back to the 1890s. Initially constructed by a well-known baker Ivan Filippov, in 1911, a reconstruction by the architect Eykhenvald saw it became one of the city's best known hotels, the Luxe hotel, a favourite for politicians, aristocrats and literary figures throughout the early nineteenth century.
The remaining external facade of the building is an object of cultural heritage and an integral part of Tverskaya Street's character ensemble. It will now be returned to the city, having been hidden from the eyes of Muscovites and visitors to the capital behind a false façade for the last decade. The restoration will also include the interior of the first floor, along with the original famous Filippov bakery and coffee house, in homage to its nineteenth century origins.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said, "We are excited to be working with Mospromstroy to return a hotel of such historic and architectural significance to the Moscow market under our flagship brand. Our partnership extends back to 2008 when we opened Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya, one of the city's famous 'seven sisters' skyscrapers dating back to the early 1950s. Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe will further cement our leading position within a city that ranks within the top 10 most visited destinations in Europe."
Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe assumes a prime city centre location at 10 Tverskaya Street, Moscow's main commercial thoroughfare, leading to the Kremlin. Once a location of choice for aristocrats to construct lavish residences, it is today characterized by a large concentration of upmarket restaurants, bars and boutiques as well as headquarters of leading Russian multinationals. The offices of the Mayor of Moscow are situated just 100m from the hotel.
Alikhan Amirkhanov, the deputy CEO of Mospromstroy comments: "Today, the Mospromstroy hospitality portfolio includes 10 hotels. We've already had successful experience working with Hilton Hotels & Resorts and we are glad to continue this cooperation. Mospromstroy hotels are focal points in the context of historical value, architecture, style and service. Our buildings define a unique architectural style of the city, and the restoration of Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe will help us to add one more touch to Moscow's historical silhouette, with the benefit of Hilton's world famous service."
The property will feature an additional 1,600 sqm of events space including a ballroom of over 650sqm as well as a range of F&B outlets and recreational facilities including an indoor swimming pool and spa. Street facing retail space will also be created which will include the location of the restored Filippov's bakery outlet. The property will be managed by Interstate Hotels.
Rob Palleschi, global head of Hilton Hotels & Resorts, said, "Having seen Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya named Historical Hotel of the Year at the 2015 Russian hotel awards, we are particularly proud to be building on this legacy with the addition of a property that has witnessed so much of Russia's rich history within its walls. The prospect of this renovation is very exciting, as we've just recently welcomed two renovated historic hotels in Hilton Paris Opera and Hilton Vienna Plaza to our brand in key European capital cities."
Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe will be located at 10 Tverskaya Street, Moscow. It will join Hilton's portfolio of more than 550 hotels around the world and a strong portfolio of 14 Hilton Worldwide properties operating in Russia, including Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya, with a further 33 in the pipeline. Guests will be eligible for the Hilton HHonors loyalty scheme which spans over 4,400 properties worldwide and has more than 46m members.
Hilton Moscow Tverskaya Luxe will become the tenth property in Mospromstroy's hotel portfolio. Today the company owns 9 hotels: seven in Moscow, one in Minsk and one in Astana which between them consist of over 2,500 guestrooms underlining its status as one of largest players in the Russia and CIS hotel business.
