Hilton Mystic Banquet Chef Awarded by Connecticut Lodging Association
Samantha Miller first recipient of Paving the Way Award for women in the industry
MYSTIC, Conn. - Hilton Mystic today announced Banquet Chef Samantha Miller has received the Paving the Way Award from the Connecticut Lodging Association (CLA) at its 115th Annual CLA Dinner and 2019 Stars of the Industry Awards on November 20.
Miller is the first ever recipient of this recognition, which honors women in the hospitality industry for excellence.
“I cannot express the level of amazement and joy that I experienced when I found out I had received the Paving the Way Award from the Connecticut Lodging Association,” said Miller. “Knowing my co-workers and managers notice the things that I do gives me a greater sense of pride.”
Miller volunteers as a chef instructor at Manchester Community College, where she spent two years earning her degree in Culinary Arts while working full time for Foxwoods in the banquet department.
Miller attended high school at Norwich Free Academy, where she earned two awards for excelling in the Culinary Arts Program: The Balfour Medal for Culinary Arts and the Brickview Inn Scholarship.
During this time, she began her ascent into the culinary world at the Norwich Inn and Spa. Miller continued her career in hospitality at Wrights Mill Tree Farm, a wedding venue in Canterbury, Connecticut, where she was mentored by Executive Chef Biagio Bonanno and Owner Curt Dubois. In 2016, the main banquet hall and kitchen were destroyed by a fire. This inspired Miller to lead a team with the same passion that she saw in the employees at Wrights.
Through hard work and a desire to learn, Miller says she has found “the career of her dreams” at Hilton Mystic. She began work at the hotel in September of 2019.
Sadly, as her career with Hilton began, Miller suffered the loss of her father. Being surrounded by a supportive and empathetic team helped her through the deep loss. A week after his passing, Miller returned to work where she turned her loss into inspiration and motivation to make her father proud.
“At Hilton Mystic I am free to be creative, surrounded by a team of passionate, hardworking individuals,” said Miller. “The hotel also provides me plenty of opportunities to give back to the community.”
Miller plans to expand her culinary education and seek a degree in Early Childhood Education to inspire others to become empowered, passionate leaders in the culinary industry.
