Hilton Durban Finishes Hotel Refurbishment
DURBAN, South Africa - Conveniently located adjacent to the Durban International Convention Centre, the Hilton Durban is in the final stages of a major refurbishment, which was undertaken in five phases at a total capital investment of more than ZAR 200 million. The full project is scheduled for completion in 2018 after the renovation of the meetings and events facilities.
The completed phases of the refurbishment project include the lobby and Big Easy Winebar & Grill Durban by Ernie Els, which recently won the Silver award status at the 2017 A’ Design Awards in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Category. The bar has been converted to an exclusive Business Lounge and all the property’s suites – including the Presidential Suite – have been redesigned with a fresh new aesthetic.
The latest addition is the new Vasco’s Restaurant, a vibrant all-day dining restaurant which draws on the best of local and international cuisine. The sweeping show kitchen, which doubles as the buffet, includes a tandoor oven, pasta station and grill station as well as hot, ambient and chilled displays. Vasco’s will excite guests with the breadth of cuisine on offer, from a modern take on local dishes such as Bunny Cho to excellent curries, African stews, freshly made breads and delicious salads and tables which spill out onto the outer terrace. Vasco’s offers delicious and enticing breakfast options, and the restaurant transforms during the day to provide quality lunches for meeting or event guests as required and buffet dinners.
Hilton Durban has been named South Africa’s Leading Business Hotel for four consecutive years (2013-2016) at the World Travel Awards and nominated for Africa’s Leading Business Hotel in 2017. Markus Fritz, general manager at Hilton Durban, said, “The hotel refurbishment was initiated in order to align it with the Hilton brand values and architecture, which have changed over the years.”
Hilton Durban first opened in 1997 and celebrated its 20 years with a redesign of 327 bedrooms, transforming them into contemporary spaces with an overall design inspired by Durban’s rich, diverse cultural heritage, captivating history, breathtaking stretch of golden shorelines and the warmth and hospitality of its people. The updated property covers all the needs of the modern traveler. The plan also involved adding a new room type for families to reflect the increase of guests coming to visit Durban for leisure, looking for more space and comfort.
"The entire team is thrilled to be welcoming guests into our newly renovated hotel. We have always listened to our loyal guests and what they loved about staying with us, and we learned that Hilton Durban is a top choice for visitors because of its iconic location, breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and Durban city. Hilton Durban keeps the modern traveler in mind, giving them the technology, flexibility, personalization and convenience they need.
“These enhancements ensure we continue extending innovative products and exceptional services to our guests, such as the upgraded air-conditioning units, an all new infrastructure and a faster Wi-Fi connection in all guest rooms by July 2017. Our investment delivers an even more welcoming environment and we look forward to welcoming travelers and locals alike, and exceeding their expectations for leisure visits, corporate stays and events," said Markus Fritz.
