Hilton Iberian Peninsula Celebrates Its Role in the ‘The Hilton Effect’
Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona Hotel marks the centenary of the first global hospitality company with a grand party, highlighting its contribution to 100 years of positive global and industry impact
BARCELONA - Last Wednesday, 29 May, Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona hosted one of its most important events as part of the centenary of one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, celebrating the honor of being part of the Hilton Effect phenomenon in Spain and Portugal.
Hilton has made a crucial contribution in shaping the industry as we know it today. The celebration was the perfect opportunity to give visibility to this positive impact, marking the most significant milestones for the company on the Iberian Peninsula in terms of innovation, growth and purpose.
Over 400 people attended the event, including hosts Jochem Jam Sleiffer (Senior Vice President, Full Service Operations, Continental Europe, Hilton), Joachim Hartl (Area General Manager Hilton Iberian Peninsula) and Carlos Miró (Director of Development, Hilton Iberia Peninsula), as well as notable professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry, other relevant economic sectors in the region and a representation of Barcelona society.
The guests experienced a variety of unique and emotive events taking place in different locations across the hotel’s innovative spaces. The first occurred in the renovated lobby and new restaurant AÜRT, where the Michelin-starred chef Artur Martínez offered his own gastronomic vision with a selection of his most distinctive dishes. With the local community in mind, the hotel also exhibited a range of works from Catalan artist Neí Albertí, in collaboration with the Can Framis museum.
A high-energy party took place in Purobeach Barcelona, coinciding with the seasonal opening of the iconic urban oasis. Live music and performances and an enormous birthday cake helped make this a truly memorable evening.

As part of its celebrations, the company has been carrying out Random Acts of Hospitality during its anniversary week. These are small, meaningful gestures have been taking place all over the world and symbolize Hilton hospitality from beyond the confines of its properties. In line with the initiative, Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona has taken part in an inclusive football project with the Trinijove Foundation, donated blankets to an animal rescue centre and offered its services to charity kitchens, in collaboration collaborated with the Rotary Club.
Hilton Madrid Airport, another hotel belonging to the company, has paid tribute to the centenary with its own birthday party and celebrated together with 100 employees.
In 100 years, Hilton has grown from a single establishment to around 5,600 hotels and 17 brands in 113 countries and territories, including Spain and Portugal. Spain’s first Hilton opened in the 1950s, and, from then on, it has built a portfolio of 15 hotels across the two countries — a total of over 2,500 rooms — and a team of around 1200 employees. In the past 30 years, it has welcomed over 1 million guests.
