Hilton Cologne Announces Completion Of Room Renovation
COLOGNE, Germany - Hilton Cologne has announced its completed room renovations.
"More than 100 team members at the hotel have perfectly worked together to keep to our plan and maintain our high standards to satisfy our customers," said Sven Beissel, general manager, Hilton Cologne. "Everyone rose to the challenge - it is not 'business as usual' to have 2.5 kilometres of carpet and 500 kilometres wired cables installed, 3,000 light bulbs replaced by LED lights and approximately 100,000 screws and nails being worked in - not to mention 500 kilometres of wallpaper."
Designed by around a dozen different companies, Hilton Cologne has successfully refurbished its 296 guest rooms. Each room features new flat screen TVs with mirroring effect (Android), cabinets, table settings, chaise lounges and new bedding. Interior design and decoration are in harmony with typical Cologne motifs and picks up contemporary and architectural details from the facade which has been part of the building since 1952.
During the renovation, the team surprisingly found a golden wedding ring with initials and a wedding date stuck between the wall and a bed panel, which had been there for the preceding 10 years. While building construction proceeded, the hotel team searched for the ring's owner. A long-term employee of the hotel remembered a newly married couple from the U.S. who had stayed at the hotel many years ago and lost a piece of jewelry. She started investigating by using the Hilton HHonors® data system, an old registration card and her memory of the event which occurred in her first week with Hilton Cologne. The team member was able to find a reservation for the relevant time in October 2006 where booking names also matched initials on the ring. An internal note in the booking system stated the couple was visiting on their honeymoon, raising the chances that the right person was found. The couple was contacted and the wedding ring was finally sent back to its owner.
Additionally, to inform people about the refurbished rooms, the hotel team reconstructed a refurbished hotel room on the Weltjugendtagsweg - located between Cologne Cathedral and river Rhine. A film crew invited those passing by to test the new bed using the motto: "Cover, uncover, discover - all new at Hilton Cologne!" About 100 testers, from families to a bowling club jumped in the white linens. This unique way of communication caught much interest in public.
