Hilton Brighton Metropole Celebrates 125th Anniversary
BRIGHTON, UK - Hilton Brighton Metropole celebrated its 125th Anniversary in the recently refurbished Clarence Suite with key local business partners, event bookers and hotel supporters which included a passionate local historian, Kevin Newman who gave a riveting 45 minute talk with tales from the hotel's archives.
Guests were greeted with free following Champagne and delicious canapés all whilst being entertained by 'Very Composed', a local classical music trio. The hotel's journey through history was proudly displayed for the guests to view with subjects including Hotel Firsts, Literature, and During the War to name a few. Exhibits from the hotel's archive were also on display in purpose built showcases.
Kevin Newman entertained the audience with tales of this iconic hotel including the grand Opening day, rumours that the Turkish baths could accommodate up to 1000 bathers, how the Clarence Suite has evolved from a Chapel to the first Casino in Britain which opened in 1962 and now being one of the busiest Wedding venues in Brighton, along with tales of famous visits which have included many Hollywood stars, Royalty and Politicians; the most famous being Winston Churchill whose visit has been honoured by naming an event room after him where he dined in 1947.
As guests mingled, our executive chef treated all to 'Seaside Delights', the Hilton Brighton Metropole's own twist on Afternoon Tea, with mini Hailsham lamb burgers, chicken lollipops, mini fish & chip cones, as well as homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, red velvet cake, mini donuts topped with chocolate, candyfloss and mini macaroons.
“I was honoured and proud to hold this event and would like to thank all those who have attended for your continued support" said Sascha Koehler, hotel manager, Hilton Brighton Metropole. “It was a fantastic afternoon and so interesting to hear all the historic tales about the building. It was also amazing to see so many people involved, from local musicians Very Composed and not forgetting, Kevin Newman, our local historian".
