Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton Support the Centenary Year of the Great Air Race
DARWIN, Australia - Hilton Darwin and DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin recently hosted the official celebratory launch of the 2019 Great Air Race Centenary.
December 10, 2018, marked the 99th anniversary of the first successful flight by Ross and Keith Smith, Wally Shiers and Jim Bennett from England to Australia. At the time, the Great Air Race was as significant to Australia as the Olympic Games.
Hilton Darwin and DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin have joined forces with Inspire Strategic Solutions, owners of the Great Air Race and Tribute projects, as a major partner to support and commemorate the centenary of the first international flight.
The year 2019 resonates with Hilton as the global hotel company will also be celebrating their 100th anniversary on 31 May.
Chaitanya Rane, commercial director, Hilton Northern Territory, said, “There is a natural alignment for us to celebrate our 100 years alongside the historical centenary year of the Great Air Race. Hilton Darwin and Double Tree by Hilton Darwin are excited to be a major partner for the Great Air Race and Tribute events. By supporting the magnificent Great Air Race initiatives, we hope to assist in raising awareness of the Territory’s wartime and military history as well as reiterating the importance of sustainable transportation technology to tackle climate change.”
Hilton Darwin and DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin will also be part of the yearlong program of events in the lead up to the 2019 Great Air Race, which will attract thousands of aviation and history buffs from around the world, providing a boost to local businesses and creating jobs in Darwin.
“These series of events will attract a whole new market of visitors which will help support local businesses and our economy. We are excited to bring Darwin back into the limelight and educate the world with this historical and momentous occasion,” added Chaitanya.
As modern age aviation has significantly evolved, the 18,000 km 2019 Great Air Race will be innovative and sustainable using low pollution, electrically powered and highly efficient aircraft.
