Beehives Create A Buzz At Hilton Nuremberg
Hilton Nuremberg Installs Beehives on its Rooftop
NUREMBERG, GERMANY - To support threatened bee populations in Germany, Hilton Nuremberg has placed beehives on its rooftop. The hotel joins 13 other Hilton properties in Europe that have installed beehives as part of their commitment to preserving the environment.
In recent years, bee populations have decreased rapidly due to climate change, the use of pesticides and a lack of food sources for bees. Bees pollinate plants and agricultural crops, ensuring a successful harvest - and so their decline poses a major threat to the world's food supply.
To create an environment where bees can thrive, Hilton Nuremberg has installed two beehives on the rooftop above the 3rd floor, allowing the bees to collect pollen in the Lorenzer forest, ideally located at the hotel.
The hotel serves the home-grown honey at the breakfast buffet, sells and uses it as a special treatment for Hilton Honors guests. This echoes Hilton's mission to create heartfelt experiences for guests and a positive impact on communities.
"Installing beehives at our hotel has helped us make an impact on the ecosystem in a simple, effective way", said Angelika Zupanc, hotel manager, Hilton Nuremberg, "Bees are essential to our survival. We hope more individuals and companies will be inspired to install beehives, so that together we can all contribute to supporting this threatened species."
This initiative is part of Hilton's commitment to preserving the environment, one of the three pillars of its global corporate responsibility strategy, Travel with Purpose.
