Hilton Opens Doors to a Destination Less Travelled with Debut of Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands

Islands’ first international brand hotel to attract a new wave of adventure travellers to enjoy the archipelago’s hiking trails, waterfalls and rocky coastlines

TORSHAVN, Faroe Islands - Today, Hilton celebrates the opening of Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands, the first internationally branded hotel on the Islands. Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands will offer the perfect escape for adventure lovers looking to explore off the beaten track.

Tucked between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Faroe Islands are an archipelago of 18 mountainous isles which boast unrivalled natural beauty, a thriving music scene and a rich, growing gastronomical culture. Located in the charming capital city of Torshavn, only five minutes from the beautiful Svartafoss Waterfall, Nordic House and the National Museum, Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands has 130 guestrooms, many of which offer scenic views of the Islands’ beautiful natural surroundings.

“Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands connects this beautiful, unspoiled destination with adventurous, international travellers,” said Simon Vincent, EVP and President, EMEA, Hilton. “As a pioneer of the hospitality industry, Hilton has a long legacy of opening up new destinations in a sustainable manner, and this hotel will be no exception. We look forward to welcoming guests to this incredible property.”

Travel with Purpose

As part of its Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals, Hilton has committed to doubling its investment in social impact and cutting its environmental footprint in half by 2030. Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands has been built with sustainability at its core, helping the Islands to grow a sustainable, responsible tourism industry. Initiatives include:

  • A heating system that uses energy from a local power plant. The plant captures leftover energy from a range of industries, including turning waste from the Islands’ thriving salmon fishing industry into energy.
  • Water-saving showers and motion-sensor taps to minimise water waste throughout the property.
  • Electrical solutions such as LED lights and intelligent lighting (motion sensors) to further reduce the amount of energy consumed.
  • Meat, fish and vegetables sourced from local suppliers. While the climate and soil of the Faroe Islands do not lend well to agriculture, many crops are grown locally using polytunnels, and will be used by the hotel’s head chef to create seasonal dishes.

Hotel Facilities

Guests have a variety of on-site dining options, including Hallartún, a French bistro style restaurant headed by acclaimed Chef Jakup Sumberg, who built his career in the kitchens of prestigious restaurants in Denmark and Sweden. Sumberg later moved to the Faroe Islands, where he has built extensive experience working with the abundance of local, seasonal produce that the Islands have to offer. Hallartún boasts stunning views and a menu packed with freshly prepared, locally sourced dishes, making the most of the island’s plentiful supply of livestock and fresh fish straight from the North Atlantic.

Meanwhile, The Shop is open 24 hours for on-the-go guests seeking locally sourced sweet and savoury snacks, beverages and ready-to-cook meals.

Travellers can also take advantage of the hotel’s wellness facility – one of the Islands’ first – featuring a sauna, outdoor jacuzzi and a 24-hour fitness centre. The hotel also offers five flexible meeting rooms with enough event space to host up to 250 attendees.

“We are proud to unveil our latest hotel in the beautiful and vibrant Faroe Islands, offering our upscale yet affordable accommodation to travellers from all over the world”, said Alan Roberts, Global Head of Hilton Garden Inn. “The opening of Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands signifies the latest market debut for the brand, which is growing rapidly and continues to extend Hilton’s renowned hospitality to new and exciting destinations around the globe.”

Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands also features Hilton CleanStay, an industry-leading programme to deliver a new standard of cleanliness and disinfection across all of Hilton’s hotels globally. Developed in collaboration with RB, maker of Lysol and Dettol, Hilton CleanStay allows guests to enjoy an even cleaner and safer stay, providing peace-of-mind from check-in to check-out.
