Hilton Adelaide Announces Recipient Of Emerging Artist Commission In Partnership With The Helpmann Academy
ADELAIDE, South Australia - Hilton Adelaide is excited to announce the candidate and overall recipient of its inaugural artistic program, in conjunction with the prestigious Helpmann Academy.
The commission has been offered to Tom Borgas who will be creating a 3D contemporary artwork that reflects the warmth and character of Adelaide and South Australia.
Peer Norsell, general manager, Hilton Adelaide, said, "Hilton Adelaide have been incredibly humbled by the artistic proposals made by submitting artists. The process of identifying an artist and artwork has been a delightful experience, noting the incredible artistic talent that we have in South Australia."
The program has received a diverse and rich response from the artistic community both in Adelaide and South Australia. Mr Norsell added, "Hilton Adelaide are great supporters of local artists and we see this commission as an investment in the SA arts community. Being able to bring that support to life with a tangible opportunity in collaboration with the Helpmann Academy has been an exciting and rewarding process for everyone involved."
Tom Borgas is a graduate from the University of South Australia and has had a number of his pieces exhibited in shows and galleries around Australia.
Tom said, "This commission provides me with a great opportunity to work with a high profile client on a sizeable commission which I'm sure is going to provide me with some great exposure to a range of local, interstate and international visitors. I am particularly grateful to the panel for their time and consideration of all applicants, to the Hilton Adelaide for their support of South Australian emerging artists in offering this commission and of course to The Helpmann Academy for acting as a catalyst for this project."
Helpmann Academy Chief Executive Officer, Jane MacFarlane, said, "We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the Hilton Adelaide on this bold initiative. The Hilton Adelaide Emerging Artist Commission is a significant opportunity for an emerging South Australian artist to develop a site-specific work in a high-profile location. The new work will replace an iconic artwork by one of Australia's most important artists, John Olsen, and will make a powerful mark in the career of this talented young artist."
It is anticipated the piece will be completed early next year with its location situated in a high traffic and operational area where hotel staff, guests, business and clients from all over Australia and the world, will view Tom's work.
