Bright ideas to help women find work-life balance
MCLEAN, Va. - Life for the modern working woman is a constant balancing act. She strives for success on the job while supporting her family and pursuing her own personal goals. As she makes her way through her daily to-do list, there's often one thing that gets pushed: time for her.
An estimated 57 percent of women participate in the work force, notes the United States Labor Department. For women who have children under 18, that number rises to 70 percent. Female professionals are an integral part of the country's business landscape, but despite the rise of technology and flexibility in the workplace, women still find it challenging to juggle work and their personal lives.
In fact, 71 percent of women would clone themselves to achieve everything they need to get done in a day, according to a recent Hilton Garden Inn survey. When it comes to dreaming of help, self-cleaning carpets (34 percent), self-folding laundry (34 percent) and 3-D printers for meals (18 percent) are the top three gadgets busy women have on their wish-list.
With this in mind, Hilton Garden Inn created a team of influential women to offer bright ideas to make life just a little bit easier. A member of this Bright Minds Team, Ashley Sears and founder of the Quirky Inspired blog, says "Female working professionals have their hands full juggling all of life's demands. When you pile on family and personal commitments as well as work, it's no wonder we're so stressed out. With a few simple steps, women can take control and feel good about making time for themselves."
Sears shares three, bright ideas for how working women can treat themselves, carve out a little "me time" and find the work-life balance they desire.
One: Start each morning with a treat
Even if you aren't a morning person, find one thing you look forward to every morning and make it a part of your morning routine. It can be something as simple as a flavored cup of coffee, a 10 minute shower with that great smelling soap or 15 minutes listening to a favorite podcast. If you have kids, get up before they do so you can enjoy some quiet time before the morning chaos starts. These small steps can start any day on the right foot.
Two: Do less and learn to say no
Working women are always multi-tasking and over-scheduling. It's no wonder "me time" always gets pushed to a later date. To achieve balance, go through your schedule and pick one thing to remove. If the world would not end if you gave up this task, it has to go! By freeing up this time you'll give yourself much-deserved breathing space in an otherwise hectic day.
Three: Indulge your wanderlust
When you become your top priority, you become a better version of you. And there's no better way to reset and refresh than taking a trip. It doesn't have to be a long elaborate vacation - just a weekend will do. Whether it's a girls getaway, a relaxing holiday with your spouse or a travel adventure with the whole family, just make sure to carve out some "me time."
"Working women make the world go round," says Sears. "But that doesn't mean their heads should spin. These simple tips will help them find the balance they deserve."
