Historic, Maritime Charm: DoubleTree By Hilton London Docklands Riverside
DoubleTree by Hilton London Docklands Riverside – Welcomes Guests Following Extensive Refurbishment
LONDON and MCLEAN, Va. - Following a multi-million pound extensive renovation and rebrand, DoubleTree by Hilton London Docklands Riverside re-opens in Rotherhithe. Anchored in the heart of London's Docklands area - once the busiest and biggest port in the world - Rotherhithe's heritage as a shipping superpower is preserved in the architecture and celebrated in the décor, mixing modern comfort with historic maritime charm.
Spread across three buildings - including the Grade I-listed Columbia Wharf dating back to the 17th century - the 379-room hotel enjoys stunning views across the Thames and boasts London's only dry dock and private pier with exclusive river ferry service. Add to this two expansive riverside terraces, one complete with bar and barbecue and the other a cigar terrace; a 24-hour fitness centre; and a range of stunning and versatile events spaces and DoubleTree by Hilton London Docklands Riverside is a truly unique property.
ICA Design has transformed the interiors, centred on a colour palette of dusty greys, stormy blues and crisp white with subtle pops of cerulean and sunshine yellow. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows flood the reception area in light and look out onto the Thames. Both the maritime and industrial aspects of the area are celebrated in the décor. A large vintage, sepia-toned shipping map is a centrepiece on the reception ceiling whilst bedroom features include barrel chandeliers, compass detailing and carriage-style coffee tables. Timber, metal, brass and gold feature prominently throughout whilst furnishings include buttery soft leather couches and Nordic style chairs.
Each guestroom is designed for business and leisure. From the balcony, a stunning view is offered of either the wider London skyline with all the notable landmarks or Canary Wharf and the Thames.
Key features include floating-style beds, HD TVs, nautical artwork, exposed brick walls and floor-to-ceiling silk curtains. All have a large working desk, ergonomic seating, laptop-sized safe, tea and coffee facilities and complimentary WiFi. En-suite bathrooms are a mix of wood and marble with luxury toiletries, made with essential oils and all-natural ingredients, from London-based brand Aroma Actives. Choose a King or Queen Suite for a separate living area with an extra sofa bed and Nespresso machine - perfect for families visiting the city or groups of friends heading to a concert at the O2 just upstream.
Committed to showcasing some of the finest artistic talents from across the globe, the hotel has worked with both international artists and local creatives to curate a dazzling display of art and contemporary sculpture throughout the hotel, including work from the likes of Sam Shendi, Patricia Volk and Patrick Colhoun.
Located within Grade I-listed Columbia Wharf, the Columbia restaurant is open for hearty breakfasts through to indulgent dinners and everything in between. Executive Chef Vernon Strachan offers a seasonal modern British menu punctuated with international influences including signature dishes of lamb cutlets; 28 day dry-aged steak (sirloin, rib-eye and fillet); and grilled halloumi with preserved lemons and roasted vegetables. Sharing platters, salads and burgers are also available, as well as a bar menu of smaller plates. Private dining options include The Captain's Table in the centre of the dining room and The Library, which can accommodate up to 30 guests. For a truly memorable occasion, the hotel can also cater bespoke lunch packages for privately hired boats.
The riverside terrace offers stunning views of the city, a dedicated bar and DIY BBQ menu, providing the perfect spot for al-fresco drinking and dining. Covered, heated and decked with cushion-strewn couches and blankets, it's the perfect outside space come rain or shine. A dedicated cigar terrace also offers the ideal space to enjoy a Cuban or two with a drink in-hand whilst enjoying the impressive vista.
The fitness centre, open around the clock, is bright, airy and spacious. Supplying a diverse choice of cardio, resistance and weight equipment, guests can wake up with a workout to start the day or wind down after back-to-back meetings with a spot of yoga and meditation in the evening. A grab-and-go coffee station in the hotel foyer provides everything the busy worker needs for a caffeine fix and quick bite en-route to a meeting.
DoubleTree by Hilton London Docklands Riverside combines stylish and unique spaces with personalised service including London's only dry dock - a magnificent space for unique celebrations under the stars. Tailor any of the 14 event spaces for up to 300 guests. Whether needing a breakout room, a private bar, a sit-down three-course dinner and access to the terrace or AV equipment - each event is bespoke. For weddings, beautifully-appointed banquet rooms include The London Room (300 pax) and The Millennium Room (150 pax), both bathed in natural light from ceiling-high windows, filled with fresh florals and newly furnished to the highest standards.
The only hotel in London to boast its own private pier, take full advantage of the waterfront location as the hotel provides a cross-river shuttle ferry to the Canary Wharf Pier, running on average every ten minutes. Catch a connection to the Thames Clippers for an unforgettable voyage into central London with the capital's famous attractions (Tower of London, London Eye and Houses of Parliament) a short sail downstream. The shopping, entertainment and business precinct of Canary Wharf is serviced by London Underground and the Docklands Light Railway, providing a quick and convenient link to the city and beyond. Also a fantastic base for a city break or business function, London City Airport is a short 20-minute journey away.
