DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street Launches Bold New Renovation of Level 14
MELBOURNE, Australia - DoubleTree by Hilton - Flinders Street introduces Level 14, a bold new renovation and re-style of the hotel's spectacular top floor. Guests exit the elevator into a compressed, warm lobby which dramatically opens to higher volumes when reaching the modern, plush rooms. Level 14 is comprised of seven new hotel rooms that are distinctly Melbourne in style and feel: three loft-style suites with soaring double-height ceilings, two of these loft-style rooms feature incredible views across Federation Square. Other rooms include: one King and King-accessible room, plus one King room and one suite both with balconies which capture cityscape views of Melbourne’s most famous landmarks from the MCG across to the Arts Centre, Flinders Street Station, the Yarra River and beyond.
What was once a private penthouse, Level 14 has been reimagined by world-renowned Australian designers and architects Woods Bagot and iWolff Atelier. The design pushes boundaries to create a new benchmark of bold yet balanced luxury in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Stepping away from the traditional marble-clad luxury hotel design, Level 14 offers luxury for the “meta” modern age with a design that celebrates authenticity and intelligent craft. A bold Melbourne look is represented through styling detail and furniture selections. Think mustard velvet desk chairs that mirror the iconic yellow façade of Flinders Street Station original, exposed bright red beams in the loft rooms and colour-blocked Italian side tables to add an edgy urban feel. Artisanal processes are celebrated with locally made high-end bespoke joinery and Italian-made furniture and upholstery. These bold accents are balanced with French washed walls and custom-made pendant globe lights by Point of View, to enhance the elegant and considered touches of the room.
iWolff Atelier Architects have captured the opportunity of utilising the existing space on the uppermost floor of DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street.
“Based on Melbourne’s bold philosophy of expressive architecture, iWolff have transformed the existing raw volumes into individually designed hotel rooms. Each room expresses the industrial structure where possible and captures framed vistas to the Yarra River and beyond. This led to an opportunity to individually design each of the rooms to have their own unique qualities,” said iWolff Director Gary Wolff.
Three suites utilise the industrial qualities of the building to create loft rooms within the double height volumes. Each bedroom loft area is accessed via carefully crafted staircases with glazed balustrades allowing views into the living area below and through framed windows to the busy streets of Melbourne.
“We meticulously coordinated the quality of finishes and exquisite detailing to provide a unique guest experience. The solution is a testament to unrivalled teamwork and cooperation of all parties delivering this bold project,” said Wolff.
With Melbourne design elements, industrial-chic architecture and spectacular views across Federation Square and Flinders Street Station when you experience Level 14, there’s no mistaking which city you’re in.
On the opening of Level 14, Garry Lucas, general manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street said:
