Curio Collection by Hilton Expands in Mexico with Brand’s First Two Properties in Mexico City
Located in Mexico’s thriving capital, the boutique hotels will expand Hilton’s portfolio to the most sought-after areas of Polanco and Centro Historico
MEXICO CITY and MCLEAN, Va. - Hilton (NYSE: HLT) announced today the signing of two Curio Collection by Hilton debut properties in Mexico City – Umbral and Hotel Lafontaine. Set to open this year, the modern boutique hotels reinforce the brand’s growth in the Caribbean and Latin America.
“Welcoming more than 40 million international tourists in 2018, Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world and as such, remains a focus in our company’s growth plans,” said Juan Corvinos, vice president, development, Latin America and the Caribbean, Hilton. “With more than 60 in-market hotels open and nearly 30 new projects in our pipeline, we recognize the demand for upscale accommodations and authentic experiences that truly represent the destination, and Curio Collection by Hilton will play a pivotal role in this expansion.”
Part of an ambitious program to restore historical buildings in Mexico, Umbral, Curio Collection by Hilton will be located in downtown Mexico City and is slated to debut in spring 2019. With its 59 guest rooms, Umbral will offer guests on-site amenities such as its rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking Mexico City’s most emblematic buildings, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, the County Hall and El Palacio de Hierro Department Store. Umbral will also boast a contemporary design with sleek, minimalistic furniture in neutral tones of white, beige and brown, as well as natural materials such as light and dark woods.
Owned by developer CITTARK, Hotel Lafontaine, Curio Collection by Hilton will feature 34 well-appointed guest rooms, a vibrant bar and restaurant and an open-air courtyard. Designed by architect Daniel Alvarez and Cherem Architecture, the boutique property’s refined modern design incorporates darker palettes with dark greys, browns and greens, as well as touches of decor inspired by the local culture. Set to open by the end of 2019, Hotel Lafontaine boasts an ideal location in Polanco, a luxurious neighborhood in Mexico City, providing visitors with world-class dining, chic boutiques and world-famous museums within walking distance.
“As Curio Collection by Hilton grows its footprint in the Caribbean and Latin America, Umbral and Hotel Lafontaine will highlight the brand’s commitment to expanding to key destinations across the globe,” said Mark Nogal, global head, Curio Collection by Hilton. “In addition to premier guest rooms and instinctive service for travelers, the distinctive hotels will offer locals access to new restaurants and bars, complementing the area’s already booming entertainment scene.”
Hilton currently has a portfolio of nearly 150 hotels and resorts open to welcome travelers in the Caribbean and Latin America, including more than 60 hotels in Mexico. In its 100th year, the company continues to pursue additional growth opportunities and currently has a robust pipeline of more than 80 hotels throughout the region, including nearly 30 planned projects in Mexico.
Hilton properties are also part of Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton's 16 distinct hotel brands. Hilton Honors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, an exclusive member discount, free standard Wi-Fi and access to the Hilton Honors mobile app.
