Meet Richard Breece, Breakfast Attendant at Hampton Inn & Suites Nashville Vanderbilt Elliston Place

Richard Breece, Breakfast Attendant at Hampton Inn & Suites Nashville Vanderbilt Elliston Place has worked at the hotel for a little over six years. However, if you step into the hotel Lobby, grab yourself a cup of coffee or head down to the breakfast area, you may get a little something extra with your morning pick-me-up. As we celebrate Food and Beverage Recognition Month, learn a little about Richard and share a nice message with him.

What brought you to Hilton?

I lost my eyesight and I am legally blind. I didn't want to just sit around and do nothing, so I applied and met with Christy Howlett, the General Manager at the time and she took a chance on me.  I have loved it every day since.

What does your best day at work look like? How are you able to keep such a positive attitude and what gets you up in the morning?

When every single guest that I speak with tells me they are happy, that makes my day, "I Love It!"  I also enjoy dressing up on holidays so that our guests get a kick out of it.

I am just a happy person. I love coming to work - work is what gets me up every day, I can't wait to get there and take care of my guests. Also, working with my co-worker Ruth. We have been together since I started and she helps me in one way or another, every single day.

Many guests and Team Members alike can hear you whistling and singing. What's your favorite song to sing? Do you get any special requests?

Anything Elvis or what I feel at the moment, whatever pops in my head. Guests ask me to sing Elvis for them all the time.

Are there any other interesting things you'd like to share about yourself with fellow Team Members?

I have a loving wife who gets up with me at 3:30 am every day to drive me to work so I can always be on time. I just love it here and would love to be here another 20 or 25 years!

Could you describe how Hilton has helped you to be your most authentic self?

Hilton, Chartwell Hospitality and my hotel allow me to be my authentic self by letting me be me, I live by the motto 'making you happy, makes me happy.'   When I'm singing, the team at the hotel says, 'sing louder,' I love it!!!

Team Members like Richard, bring the light and warmth of hospitality to our guests every day. We are committed to cultivating a workplace where Team Members of all backgrounds and abilities can be their very best.

If Richard’s story inspired you, maybe it’ll inspire others. We encourage you to share it with your social media networks, and submit your own Team Member story, here. Want to join the Hilton team? Check out our Hilton Careers website today!
