Meet Manuel Santiago, Food & Beverage Supervisor, Hilton Anatole
As we mark Military Appreciation Month in the U.S. this May, we are delighted to spotlight Manuel Santiago, Food & Beverage Supervisor at Hilton Anatole and Petty Officer Third Class in the United States Navy Reserve.
Manuel began his career with Hilton in 2015 when he relocated from Puerto Rico to Dallas, Texas. He initially applied for a server position, but the hotel team instantly recognized his experience and leadership skills and offered him a supervisor position in food and beverage. He currently oversees the team at Hilton Anatole's breakfast restaurant, Terrace Café and was recently named Team Member of the Month. Under his leadership, Terrace Café received the highest SALT scores in "Helpfulness of Restaurant Staff".
"When you mention genuine hospitality, Manuel's name comes to mind," said Reca Lewis, Training Manager. "Manuel has a sincere passion for people and it shows in the way he interacts with Team Members and Guests, making sure everyone he encounters feels cared for, valued and respected."
His experience in the armed forces has truly helped Manuel excel in hospitality. The leadership, team work and problem solving skills he perfected in the military perfectly translate to our HILTON Values. He anticipates Guests' needs and takes ownership to meet them.
When he noticed a regular Guest having breakfast at Terrace Café was coughing and seemed to be under-the-weather, he sent soup to her room later that day and followed up with her to see if she was feeling better. Another time when he overheard a Guest mentioned that she was unhappy with something in her room, he personally went to the front desk and had the issue addressed without her having to ask directly. An excellent team player, Manuel also jumps in to assists in other F&B outlets whenever he notices that they are getting busy.
As a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves, he is personally committed to helping Hilton's Operation: Opportunity and other military Team Member programs succeed. He alsosupports fellow veteran Team Members and their families as they transition into civilian life.
"I love hospitality because, I get the opportunity to meet people from all around the world. Every day I get to encounter different types of travelers and meeting their individual needs is very rewarding," said Manuel. "Hilton is great for veterans because there is a focus on matching a person's military skills to a rewarding career in hospitality where they can grow."
When he is not creating memorable experiences for Guests, Manuel serves at a Naval Reserves base in Fort Worth, Texas. His unit supports the U.S. Naval base in Guam, assembling underwater mines.
Thank you, Manuel for your dedication to make Hilton the most hospitable company in the world as well as for serving your country.
