Conrad Dublin Celebrates Budding Irish Design Talent with a Sprinkle of Movie Magic to Officially Launch Christmas 2018
DUBLIN - This festive season the city’s stylish five-star Conrad Dublin has taken inspiration from Disney’s latest release, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” and engaged with Dublin’s National College of Art & Design to create a wonderfully unique and bespoke Christmas look for the hotel’s exterior and interior.
“Our brief was simple – design a magical, festive world inspired by Disney’s ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.’” It has been incredible to see the amazing design talent at NCAD and the winning theme, created by André Parra, really impressed us with its vibrant colours, original display ideas and concepts that complement both the hotel design and movie theme. Our marketing team enjoyed working alongside the Disney Ireland team and we look forward to welcoming guests over the coming weeks to soak up the incredible Christmas atmosphere that now permeates from the outside in!” said Martin Mangan, General Manager.
André Parra was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Dublin in 2011. He believes that Ireland is, "without doubt, a country that nurtures art and creativity," and he states that he feels privileged to live here and study at the National College of Art and Design, where he is in his final year of the country's only illustration degree programme. He has always been a huge Disney fan, inspired particularly by Mary Blair's work in the late 1940s and 50s, so to have his design chosen by Conrad Dublin and Disney Ireland is a great honour.
Trish Long, Vice President & General Manager, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Ireland, said: “We are delighted to partner with NCAD and the Conrad Dublin resulting in this wonderfully colourful and magical Christmas installation inspired by ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.’”
André not only gets to showcase his design skills but also receives a prize package including a stay for two at Conrad Dublin, including breakfast, dinner at the Coburg Brasserie, a Disney goody bag and €500 prize.
“We were thrilled to receive the challenging design brief from Conrad Dublin and the Disney Ireland team. Through a series of site visits and tutorials between the students and myself with input from PJ Lynch (renowned children's book illustrator), the students created presentations which visualised how the foyer could be transformed into an atmospheric space that celebrates Disney's wonderful seasonal release ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,’” said Brendon Deacy, NCAD.

About The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale and “The Nutcracker,” “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” showcases the wondrous journey of Clara, who finds herself in the mystical world of the Four Realms, home to a host of eccentric characters and no shortage of surprises.
E.T.A. Hoffmann penned “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” in 1816. Alexandre Dumas Père’s subsequent adaptation, “The Nutcracker,” was set to Tchaikovsky’s music and the resulting ballet was commissioned in 1891 by director of the Russian Imperial Theatres. Premiering a week before Christmas in 1892, the fairytale ballet—which takes place on Christmas Eve—became a holiday tradition around the world. The New York City Ballet first performed George Balanchine’s “Nutcracker” in 1954.
