Seeking Authentic Experiences in Your Travels? Canopy by Hilton Has You Covered
February 10, 2020
Gone are the days of just taking selfies in front of tourist attractions and calling it a vacation. Travelers today want to steep themselves in the destinations they visit and get to know the culture through the local customs and people.
Opening in 20 neighborhoods in 2020, Canopy, Hilton’s upper-upscale lifestyle hotel brand, develops its hotels in partnership with local owners to help immerse travelers in the authentic side of wherever they visit.
“More and more, we’re seeing that people want to be part of the places they visit, and we created Canopy for this exact type of traveler,” said Gary Steffen, global head, Canopy by Hilton. “Our hotels make connections to the local life, and we also provide amenities and local know-how that enable travelers to connect with the neighborhood’s culture on their own terms.”
From a locally sourced welcome gift (such as an artisanal chocolate) upon arrival to the thoughtful, custom interior design and tastings of local craft beers, wines and spirits every evening, each Canopy hotel tells the neighborhood’s story through the experiences it creates for guests. Canopy also helps travelers explore the local culture outside the hotel through recommendations from Team Members (who are excited to share their passion for the community), complimentary Canopy bikes and even curated guides of where four-legged guests can hang out with locals.
See below to learn about some of the authentic experiences Canopy will bring to life across the 20 hotels it is opening in 2020. And, explore the “media resources” tab on the Canopy newsroom for more information about the brand, its existing hotels and other 2020 openings.
Canopy Austin draws on the city’s love for outdoor living with an open-air courtyard and restaurant that will attract locals and travelers in need of an oasis amid the lively West 6th Street district. The hotel blends Austin’s “funky” vibe and Texas Hill Country’s charm throughout its 140 guest rooms.
Canopy Grand Rapids will celebrate the town’s “Furniture City” roots with iconic mid-century modern design throughout the public spaces and 150 guest rooms. The hotel will also immerse guests – both travelers and locals – in Grand Rapids’ (known as “Beer City USA”) thriving craft beer scene with the city’s largest four-season rooftop beer garden.
Canopy Jersey City guests will get a feel for the area’s thriving art scene as they move throughout the hotel lobby, which will feature studio space for local artists. The 211 guest rooms will highlight the neighborhood’s industrial roots, with raw materials and finishes incorporated into the design, and guests will be able to enjoy the vibrant Powerhouse Arts District’s offerings that are within walking distance of the hotel.
Canopy Kansas City will offer a glimpse into what life was like when its building originally opened as a luxury department store in the 1920s. The hotel will welcome locals and travelers to its champagne speakeasy bar, and it features art deco design throughout the 110 guest rooms.
Canopy London City will celebrate East London’s many lives with a creative design inspired by the “Young British Artists” movement, the fabric shops that once existed in the neighborhood and the sleek buildings that form the financial district today. The corridors to the 340 guest rooms will showcase modern-day oil painting portraits of local people – past and present – that add another connection to the rich neighborhood. The hotel is located just steps from landmarks, including the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, and it will attract locals and travelers to its rooftop bar that offers stunning views of London City.
Canopy Memphis will bring travelers to the heart of all the action. The hotel shares an alleyway with the famous Memphis BBQ hot spot, Rendezvous, and is just three blocks from the famous Beale Street. The interior design of the 170 guest rooms will tell the story of Memphis’ past by blending elements of Blues Highway soul and the Mississippi River industry.
Canopy Paris guests will feel as if they’re staying in a local’s historical apartment. The 123-room hotel will open in a refurbished 1930s building that features period architecture and touches of modern Parisian elegance.
Canopy Philadelphia will take guests through many moments of the city’s history, starting with the 19th century when the hotel’s structure, the Stephen Girard Building, was built. The interior design fuses elements of Classical and Beaux-Arts architecture, the Snellenburg’s department store (which grew around the building from 1889 until 1962) and Philadelphia’s hip-hop and R&B culture.
Canopy São Paulo will put travelers in the heart of Jardins, the popular upper-class residential neighborhood that’s lined with villas and mansions and blended with restaurants, galleries, shops and more. From the lively façade – designed by renowned Brazilian street artist Speto – to the vibrant interior, every aspect of the 98-room hotel will represent the fun energy and freshness of Brazil’s multicultural diversity.
Canopy Tempe will bring out the school spirit in every guest who stays at the 200-room hotel, that is located across the street from Arizona State University’s campus. Part of the building’s façade will feature musical notes that depict the ASU fight song and the interior design will reflect the tranquility of the area’s natural landscape, such as a curved lobby ceiling that echoes the surrounding canyons.
Canopy West Palm Beach will become a top destination for locals and travelers alike with its whimsical design that celebrates Florida’s citrus groves. Visitors to the 150-room hotel will be welcomed by a six-story fiber optic banyan tree in the lobby as they make their way to a rooftop treehouse bar.
