Meet Emily Egan, Marketing Manager at the Millennium Hilton in New York City. Emily is a shining example of sharing her talent and passion for Hospitality to create a positive impact in her local Community.
Emily created Buscando Trabajo: Looking for Work in NYC, a "digital bulletin board" that has helped hundreds of people find jobs in New York City. And, it's been a huge success - connecting thousands of job seekers with positions in the hospitality industry. Since its launch two years ago, it has garnered over 13,000 followers on Facebook. People can use the site to learn about F&B opportunities available across New York City.
Emily captures photos of "Help Wanted" signs that restaurants, delis, and bars put up in their windows and then posts them, along with the address and phone numbers, online. And, her idea continues to grow! Contributors are now posting photos of Help Wanted signs that they find as well. The comments are full of conversations where people are helping each other find work. What a great example of Hospitality bringing together members of the community!
Emily shares that "Buscando Trabajo is an outgrowth of my own work experience. Having worked in restaurants during and after college, I became friendly with my fellow workers, and they would ask me to help them find another dishwasher or busboy job for themselves or a family member. For various reasons of income and schooling, these new friends did not know how to navigate the various job sites and other opportunities on the internet. As I would pass lots of restaurant windows with Help Wanted signs on them, I would text them the photo and address so they would know where to go in person. I later started the page and group so more people who needed this type of easy-to-access online bulletin board could use it."
Thank you, Emily, for sharing your experience, marketing skills and commitment to helping others and making a tremendous impact in your community. You are truly bringing our Vision, Mission and Values to life!
