Curio Collection by Hilton Debuts in Costa Rica
Situated in the heart of San José, Gran Hotel Costa Rica grows global collection of one-of-a-kind hotels and represents Hilton’s 16th property in Central America
SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica AND MCLEAN, Va. - Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton re-opens today as a reimagined, historical gem in the heart of downtown San José in Costa Rica. As the first hotel designed for international visitors in Costa Rica, the newly redesigned 79-guest room property fuses history with cutting-edge modern design, and features indoor gardens and a rooftop piano bar overlooking the National Theatre and city.
Originally opened in October 1930 and declared a historical architectural monument in 2005, the highly acclaimed hotel joins the National Theatre, Las Arcadas, Plaza de la Cultura and Gold Museum as some of the most iconic buildings in San José. Eighty-eight years since its original opening, the hotel now boasts a modern design while still paying homage to its rich history.
“Surging in tourist arrivals from the previous year, Costa Rica continues to be a top choice destination for travelers, and Curio Collection by Hilton is pleased to provide these travelers with an authentic new hotel experience with the opening of Gran Hotel Costa Rica,” said Mark Nogal, global head, Curio Collection by Hilton. “We recognize the demand for unique accommodations in key markets across the region, and our first property in the country allows us to provide this to the growing number of travelers seeking elevated, unexpected experiences while visiting the capital city.”
Each guest room features organic and natural bathroom amenities, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi, a 49-inch TV, an ergonomic workspace and a walk-in shower. Guests who opt for a suite can take advantage of the 24-hour butler service and access to the hotel’s Executive Lounge with complimentary nightly hors d’oeuvres and spirits.
Travelers can enjoy international flavors, Costa Rican cuisine and panoramic views of San José at on-property Cultura 5 restaurant, while sampling a wide selection of whiskey and gin from around the world at the piano bar. Guests can also take advantage the 24-hour business center and gym and access to the 890-sq.-ft. event space with modern A/V equipment and catering.
Located on Avenida Central and less than 15 miles from Juan Santamaría International Airport, Gran Hotel Costa Rica overlooks the National Theatre and is surrounded by the city’s top museums, plazas, shops and cafés. From the hotel, travelers can also take day trips to popular destinations, including Braulio Carrillo National Park or the Poás Volcano.
“As the area’s newest boutique hotel in downtown, Gran Hotel Costa Rica offers guests a refined travel experience with carefully-designed accommodations and distinct amenities,” said Sandor Tupi, general manager, Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton. “Declared a historical and architectural monument in San José, the property is an important landmark to our community and we look forward to showcasing its beauty and history to travelers.”
