Conrad Seoul implements the 'Plastic Straw Disposal’ campaign in a hotel-wide initiative to protect the environment
From September, all plastic straws in the hotel are replaced with paper straws to continue our commitment for a sustainable tomorrow and our lead in environmental protection.
SEOUL, South Korea - Conrad Seoul implements a hotel-wide plastic straw disposal campaign from September 1st, 2018. In July 2018, Conrad Seoul started a campaign to encourage our guests to willingly use paper straws in our on-site cafes and restaurants and from September 1st, 2018, the hotel replaces all plastic straws with biodegradable paper straws. The successful initiative is part of Conrad Seoul’s support towards a sustainable life as the hotel continues to implement these and other global environmental protection activities, in addition to supporting the local community in the nearby vicinity.
In May 2018, Hilton, the parent company of Conrad Seoul, launched the ‘2030 goals’. This series of initiatives aims to support sustainable living by 2030 among the four pillars of the corporate social responsibility strategy, ‘Travel with Purpose’. In addition to removal of plastic straws at Hilton managed properties, the initiatives include ‘Reducing carbon emissions by 61%’, ‘Reducing water consumption and waste production by 50%’, and ‘Using sustainable sources’ and ‘Expanding existing soap recycling programs to all hotels and send zero soap to landfills' by 2030.
Conrad Seoul joins the campaign and replaces all plastic straws with paper straws in all our hotel outlets, guest rooms and meeting rooms. In addition, Café 10G, the lobby café where take-out beverages are frequently served, is also using eco-friendly knives, forks, and spoons instead of plastic cutlery. To encourage our patrons to participate in the campaign, Café 10G will offer KRW 300 discounts to customers who bring their own receptacle when purchasing beverages.
