Conrad New York and Union Square Events Round Out Executive Chef Team With Two Appointments
NEW YORK - Conrad New York is pleased to announce the appointments of Edward Rodriguez to Executive Banquet Chef, and Giovanna Alvarez to Executive Sous Chef. Announced in partnership with Union Square Events, the exclusive catering partner to the luxury lower Manhattan hotel, the two Chefs tout almost 25 years of combined fine dining experience.
“We are thrilled to have Chef Edward step into a new position within the hotel and for Chef Giovanna join our team,” said Marlene Poynder, general manager, Conrad New York. “Chef Edward’s successful history of leadership within Union Square Events and Chef Giovanna’s experience in the luxury space will be instrumental in extending the hotel’s excellent dining services to guests.”
In his new position, Chef Edward will further enhance and streamline efforts between Conrad New York and Union Square Events, leading the banquet team to provide excellent and efficient culinary services for all events hosted at the Battery Park City all-suite hotel. Prior to this promotion, Chef Edward served as Executive Sous Chef at Conrad New York.
Prior to joining the team at Conrad New York, Chef Edward served as Sous Chef with B&I, Bloomberg L.P. and Union Square Events where he developed the pasta program through his training with Maialino. Chef Edward initially joined Union Square Hospitality Group in 2013 as an Event Chef in the corporate kitchen. Chef Edward began his career as the Lead Cook at Aramark, March, Meclennen & Callahan.
In her role as Executive Sous Chef, Chef Giovanna will assist the Executive Chef in Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant, coordinating and supervising every aspect of food production and ensuring a high level of quality and service for guests.
Before joining Conrad New York, Chef Giovanna served as Sous Chef of Asiate Restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City for eight years, where she oversaw daily operations of 30 team members. Prior to making the move to New York, Chef Giovanna lived and worked in Miami Beach, where she held the position of Junior Sous Chef at The Setai Hotel, Line Cook at Johnny V Restaurant and Cook 3 at The Ritz Carlton Miami. Chef Giovanna received an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America and more recently attended the Paul Bocuse Institute and Lyon, France in 2016.
